The Marion Clackamas chapter had their first reorganization meeting on January 8th. At that meeting, we were able to elect officers. President – Michelle Carmony, Vice President – Carol Bernhard and Treasurer – Tracy Duerst. Michelle will fill in as Secretary until one is elected. We designated Karen Withers and Carol Bernhard as directors and Tracy Duerst as alternate. We held a second meeting Feb 4th. Between those 2 meetings, we’ve funded two mini grants. One to Silverton FFA to help fund the items needed for a mobile classroom that they will use to take to local schools and educate about agriculture and ag careers. The other one was to Gervais FFA. It will help get them set up for a poultry breeding program that will be a benefit to helping their ag program foster a deeper connection to agriculture and help students understand the commitment, responsibility and science in modern animal husbandry. We are looking forward to hearing about their experiences as the projects take off. We have formed a scholarship committee and will be offering three $1,000 scholarships this year. Our Vice President has taken on the task of Auction Committee chair for our chapter and is gathering some great donation items for the upcoming auction. As a chapter, we are going to make it a goal to help support some of the lesser-known projects in our chapter counties that facilitate the mission of OWA, To Educate, To Promote and To Unite. Please do not hesitate to reach out with suggestions and ideas as we go forward in reviving our chapter.
