Happy Spring, everyone! As we enter this new season, the staff at Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom looks forward to longer days, more sunshine, and, of course, engaging students in our annual Literacy Project. This year, the team – with the help of over 50 volunteers – cut 3,000 puzzles in preparation for bringing the project to more than 19,000 students across Oregon. Read on to see how you can get involved!

Now is the time to volunteer for our Literacy Project!

The 2025 Literacy Project features the book Outdoor Farm, Indoor Farm written by Lindsay Metcalf and illustrated by Xin Li. Join two children as they explore the inner workings of an outdoor farm and an indoor farm. They will see how a variety of amazing machinery like tractors and drones along with innovative farming techniques yield the wonderful food we all love to enjoy. This wonderfully illustrated story displays how art, agriculture, and technology interweave to tell the story of our food system.

The Literacy Project will run through early June. Register today to bring agricultural literacy to students in your community by reaching out to your local schools or fulfilling one of our requests for volunteers. For more information about the program or to sign up to read to a classroom, visit our website, contact Evelyn Tedrick, Evelyn.Tedrick@oregonstate.edu, or call 541-737-1318.

Upcoming Events in the Community

We are excited to announce that we have partnered with Tallman Brewing in Lebanon, Oregon, for an afternoon of Bingo on Sunday, May 18th, from 3-5 PM. Half of the proceeds raised will go to support Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom. We are grateful to work with this local business to raise awareness for both parties.

Every fall, we look forward to gathering for our Fall Harvest Dinner. This year, the event will occur on the evening of October 4th, in Corvallis, Oregon. All proceeds from this event directly support our mission of helping students grow in their knowledge of agriculture, the environment, and natural resources. We look forward to seeing you there!
