We started the year with our first meeting on January 13th. Jade Davidson, with Ag in the Classroom, was one of two guest speakers. She gave us an update on the program and insight into how our chapter could partner with them for future projects.

Lena Calef with Dallas FFA Alumni Association reported on the groups “Hearts and Wine Auction & Dinner”, February 8th and welcomed us to attend the event. She also asked for cake donations for the dessert auction which several PCWA members donated for the event.

At our February meeting, we welcomed Rachel Brandon as our guest speaker from Polk County OSU Extension. Rachel is the 4-H Program Coordinator, and she shared three spring projects she is seeking sponsors to support. The first is during spring break, offering a one-hour class for Polk County youth to create their own succulent gardens or learn how to propagate plants and how to continue nurturing them at home. The second project is April 12 and offers an “Art and Sciences Discovery Day” at the Polk County Fairgrounds. Several stations will be set up for youth to participate in including a few horticulture classes that teach plant propagation and gardening. The third project is at the end of June, a weeklong Junior Master Gardener Day Camp that will provide hands-on learning opportunities such as starting seeds, propagation techniques, container gardening, garden journaling, plant care and understanding animals in the garden. All three projects sounded wonderful, so we voted to support all three. See attached the flyers for the first two projects.

We also re-elected our officers at the February meeting. Diann Washburn-President, Jeree Mulkey-Vice President, Carol Marx-Secretary and Arlene Kovash-Treasurer.

Our chapter will be assisting Merissa Calkins, while she is on maternity leave, with the Gold Tables at the OWA Auction in April. We are also collecting items for the auction.

PCWA meetings are on the second Monday of each month at Westside Pacific Family Restaurant in Rickreall, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. All are welcome to join us!

See you at the Auction!

Diann Washburn, President
